VND() writes amounts in words, LAMBDA arrives, Office shortcuts, and MORA Office for macOS
The October 6 update brings MORA Sheet the VND() function, which writes amounts of money in Vietnamese words ready for accounting documents, along with the Excel 365 LAMBDA family, and numbers now display exactly as you type them. Keyboard shortcuts in all four apps follow Word, Excel and PowerPoint; the ribbon stays on your current tab when you click a table or image; and the author name is filled in automatically, as in Word. On the same day, MORA Office shipped its first release for Macs with Apple silicon.
New features 3
SheetVND() writes amounts of money in words
Vietnamese invoices and accounting vouchers must state amounts in words. =VND(3000000) returns “Ba triệu đồng chẵn” (exactly three million dong) and =VND(1005000) returns “Một triệu không trăm linh năm nghìn đồng chẵn”, the standard wording on financial documents. Its arguments match the VND() function of the AccHelper add-in for Excel, so existing accounting templates calculate as soon as they are opened and keep working when saved back to Excel. For regional variants such as “ngàn”, “lẻ” or “tư”, use the seventh argument, for example =VND(A1,,,,,,"ngàn lẻ").
SheetLAMBDA and its companion Excel 365 functions
Adds LAMBDA, MAP, REDUCE, SCAN, BYROW, BYCOL, MAKEARRAY and ISOMITTED. Create your own functions such as =LAMBDA(x,x*2)(5), give them a name and call them like built-in functions, or calculate for each value in a range with =MAP(A1:A10,LAMBDA(a,a*1.1)); array results spill into neighboring cells as in Excel. Excel files containing LAMBDA now recalculate instead of only keeping their saved results, and still open normally in Excel after saving.
GeneralAuthor name filled in automatically, as in Word
On first launch, if no name has been entered under Tools ▸ Options ▸ User Data, MORA Office fills in the Microsoft Office user name on the computer or the Windows account name, together with initials. Comments, tracked changes and document properties then show the author's actual name instead of “Unknown Author”. The name is filled in only once and can be changed in Options.
Improvements 9
GeneralWord, Excel and PowerPoint shortcuts
In every app: F12 for Save As, Shift+F12 for Save and Ctrl+F12 for Open. Shortcuts that Office users rely on no longer do something unexpected, such as Ctrl+Q quitting the app or Ctrl+Shift+M switching the document to read-only.
DocWord shortcuts in MORA Doc
Ctrl+1/2/5 set single, double and 1.5 line spacing; Ctrl+D opens the Font dialog; Ctrl+Shift+D applies double underline; Ctrl+M/Ctrl+Shift+M increase/decrease the indent; Ctrl+Space clears character formatting and Ctrl+Q clears paragraph formatting as in Word (alignment returns to default while bold, italic and font are kept); Ctrl+Shift+C copies formatting; Ctrl+Shift+L applies bullets; and Heading 1–3 use Ctrl+Alt+1/2/3.
SheetExcel shortcuts in MORA Sheet
Alt+Shift+Right/Alt+Shift+Left group/ungroup rows and columns; F11 and Alt+F1 create a chart; Shift+F11 inserts a worksheet; Ctrl+L creates a table.
GeneralThe ribbon stays on your current tab, as in Word and PowerPoint
Clicking a table, image or drawing no longer makes the ribbon jump to the Table, Image or Drawing tab: those tabs simply appear alongside, and Home tab buttons such as Highlight and Bullets stay within reach. The ribbon switches to the object's tab only right after you insert an object, and returns to the tab you were using once you deselect it.
SheetNumbers display as you type them
As in Excel, typing 1,250,000 shows 1,250,000 (previously 1250000) and typing 15% shows 15% (previously 15.00%); numbers with decimals keep two digits, such as 1,250,000.50 and 15.50%. Cells with their own number format are unchanged.
GeneralNew charts use an Office-style palette
New charts use an Office-style color palette (blue, orange, gray, yellow…) with a white plot area, so charts look the same when copied to or opened in Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Existing charts keep their colors.
SlideLong titles shrink to fit
Long titles and subtitles automatically shrink to fit their placeholders as in PowerPoint, instead of running over the top edge of the slide during slideshows, in PDF exports or in saved .pptx files. This applies to new presentations; existing ones keep their current appearance.
PDFMore room for PDF pages
The row of layer tabs at the bottom of the window is hidden when a file has no custom layers, giving PDF pages more room; files with custom layers still show the tabs for switching between layers.
DocFully translated Hyperlink dialog
The Hyperlink dialog (Ctrl+K) now shows its title, the Help, Apply, OK and Cancel buttons and the Form list (Text, Button) entirely in Vietnamese, with no leftover English text.
Installation and platform 2
macOSMORA Office for Macs with Apple silicon
The first MORA Office release for macOS, for Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 11 or later, is available as a .dmg file at office.mora.vn/tai-ve. Released alongside the Windows version, it includes all the new features above, and the Vietnamese interface is built into the installer.
macOSOpening MORA Office on a Mac for the first time
The macOS version is not yet signed with Apple. If macOS blocks the app the first time you open it, go to System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway (or right-click the app and choose Open); from then on it opens normally.
